Ankeny Miracle Park Coming Soon

Every child deserves to play baseball.

That’s a mantra of the Ankeny Kiwanis Miracle League, a not-for-profit group that identifies locally with the needs of children with disabilities, including more than 800 kids between the ages of 5 and 18 in the Ankeny Community School District.

The organization is just about $100,000 shy of reaching a $1.2 million fundraising goal. You can help push it over the top by pledging to encourage the growth and development of the more 3,500 kids on deck in Polk, Boone, Dallas and Story counties.

Want to help right now without spending a dime? Follow this link and vote for the Miracle Park to win $25,000 worth of playground equipment. In mere seconds, your vote will also help support the installation of a nearly 15,000-square-foot playground at the all-inclusive Miracle League Ball Field slated for children of all ages to enjoy inside Ankeny’s Hawkeye Park.

Voting for the Miracle League in the “Make A Difference Through Play Contest,” presented by Landscape Structures Inc., will not only prop up a nonprofit with a noble mission of helping Central Iowa kids with disabilities, but also the opportunities that follow their chance “at bat.”

Think about how your support of a community wide initiative to construct a super-accessible recreational facility that benefits special-needs youth will encourage both parents and children with a strong desire to participate in sports leagues, and improve the landscape for everyone.

“One of our goals this summer is to install the concrete and construct the necessary building to, at the very least, allow us to have a short Fall 2013 baseball season,” says Ankeny Miracle League Board Chairman Kerry Walter-Ashby. “It will be fantastic to have an opening day, a first pitch, and to get Ankeny-area kids playing ball.”

In association with the City of Ankeny Parks & Recreation Department, the Miracle League & All-Inclusive Playground project will provide a “rubberized” surface on which children with disabilities can enjoy circling the bases in an obstacle-free environment.

VanWeelden Co. is thankful for an opportunity to join Hy-Vee, Casey’s General Stores and a host of other companies and individuals in a show of financial support or in-kind donations to make the miracle of play possible for the “Super Kids” in our communities.

Help drive them home. Vote today and consider making a tax-deductible donation to cheer a child’s tomorrow.
