1280 Burr Oaks Drive in West Des Moines
The homeowner wanted an outdoor living space that was zero maintenance with a cleaned-up feel that didn’t impact the overall design. VanWeelden Co. repurposed the existing footprint for the deck to create three distinct areas and give the outdoor area more of a living space look and feel by sectioning off these individual areas.
VanWeelden Co. installed mocha-colored TimberTech Earthwood Evolutions® Legacy composite decking, one of three new colors available this year, extending the owner’s indoor style and personality to an outdoor living experience with timeless style and a 25-year fade and stain warranty.
The project features the incorporation of chocolate Westbury® Aluminum railing and low-voltage LED post lights operable by remote control. A new roof and upper deck area were among other recent improvements made by VanWeelden Co. to the home.

A streamlined approach to this project resulted in a newly designed entertainment spot for the homeowner, and incorporation of a solution that provides a larger and more usable space for everything from grilling on the deck to relaxing by a fire pit.
The homeowner wanted to incorporate a hot tub, so VanWeelden poured a pad for the tub to sit on and built out the deck to double the size of this Outdoor Living Space.
Featured materials include TimberTech Earthwood Evolutions® Tropical decking, in a Walnut color, with complementary chocolate-colored Westbury® Aluminum crossover railing.

The creation of a beautifully conceived Outdoor Living Space in West Des Moines followed a complete reside featuring JamesHardie ColorPlus® technology in a rich, neutral Cobblestone color with Arctic White trim.
An existing cedar deck that required constant maintenance and provided zero relief from the sun – making it nearly impossible for the homeowners to enjoy their backyard – was replaced with an easy to maintain concrete patio featuring a custom, cedar-topped pergola that ebbs and flows with the existing landscaping, and brought out the color of limestone-edged flower beds.
A modern and sustainable look is reflected by 6” x 6” posts wrapped in Hardie ColorPlus XLD trim, and the arch on the outside of the patio gels with the curved steps and versatile Westbury® Aluminum railing. The project included the certified installation of Tyvek® HomeWrap® and new Encompass by Pella® windows throughout the home.
From splinter-free, scratch-and-stain-resistant decking surfaces that require no staining, painting or sealing – to sleek railing and state-of-the-art LED lighting fixtures – VanWeelden Co. can workaround or repurpose the existing exterior footprint of your home, or help create an outdoor living concept that meets your specific needs and matches your home’s unique style.
